What does “a juyir” mean?

¡A Juyir! is  common Puerto Rican expression which can be roughly translated as “Let’s flee!”  “Juyir” is slang (or bastardization, I’d say) for “huir” ) which means “flee,” “escape,” “take off.”  Coupled with the preposition “a” (i.e., “to”), it adds an imperative sense to the expression, which can be more accurately translated as ” Let’s get the hell out of here.”

It is often used to highlight or describe an outrageous event, expression or idea. Let’s say, something as outrageous as the Puerto Rican fundamentalist religious right. You’ll see them quite often on this blog, but needless to say, we are not endorsing them. (And that’s an understatement!) ☺
