¡A Juyir! is common Puerto Rican expression which can be roughly translated as “Let’s flee!” “Juyir” is slang (or bastardization, I’d say) for “huir” )which means “flee,” “escape,” “take off.” Coupled with the preposition “a” (i.e., “to”), it adds an imperative sense to the expression, which can be more accurately translated as ” Let’s get the hell out of here.”
It is often used to highlight or describe an outrageous event, expression or idea. It is also the expression that summarizes how I feel about Puerto Rico. It accurately conveys how alarmed, yet fascinated I am by everything and everyone that surrounds me.
